The Hembury Castle Necklace with Footpath Chain is celebration of our ancient connection to wild landscapes.

This unique, one of a kind, design is based on archaeological remains of Hembury Castle, Hill Fort in Hembury Woods, on the edge of Dartmoor. It is created with hand engraving, inlaid with 9ct gold and a beautiful 3mm brilliant cut white Sri Lankan sapphire, and five 2mm brilliant cut blue Sri Lankan sapphires ethically sourced from Nineteen48, all set in 9ct gold.

The necklace is a map of the earthworks, huge ditches that mark the boundary of Hembury Castle, Hill Fort, entrances, pathways and archaeological remains of roundhouses. Silver is formed to reflect the geological contours of the site. The plan of the earthworks is created in gold wire, inlaid and on the surface. Engraved into the silver in a sketched style are Ordinance Survey (OS) map symbols for earthworks, footpaths, and contours. The white sapphire represents the mott of the castle and five blue sapphires are set in the position of the roundhouses. The accompanying chain is based on the ratio of dashes and breaks of the OS map symbols and features a gold clasp that mirrors the gold wires on the pendant. The chain has adjustable 9ct gold links so the necklace can be worn at different lengths.

This totally handcrafted piece makes a wonderful gift, and a celebration of our historical connection to wild landscapes.
