Ethos

It can be difficult to find beautiful jewellery where the materials, processes and the packaging are sustainable, made with attention and care. Sustainability and honouring the Earth is at the heart of the work.

Informed by research, all items are made only with recycled metals, silver and gold. All the gemstones that from ethical sources and are fully traceable with vertical supply chains (from miner to supplier). I purchase gemstones from the leading ethical gemstone supplier Nineteen 48 that supports artisan miners who are paid fairly, have correct safety equipment and the land is cared for. Quartz is collected from my garden and locally, where it lies on the surface.

In my making process, I use vinegar and salt pickle, rather than acids. Waste is minimised by collecting the lemel, (metal dust) for reprocessing, as is the sandpaper. I use a use a water-based natural polishing compound. All packaging is made from recycled paper and card and natural foraged materials, dried flowers and plants from the garden.

I am a member of the The Green Maker Initiative (GMI) which is hosted by MAKE Southwest and supports designers and makers to reduce the environmental impact of their work.

I was employed by University of Plymouth to undertake research in sustainability in the creative industries, funded by the European Regional Development Fund and developed the The Green Maker Initiative (GMI) with MAKE Southwest. You can read more about the GMI in this beautiful book published by University of Plymouth Press in collaboration with the Crafts Council. A free digital copy is available free here.

You can purchase the full colour coffee table version, printed on recycled paper with vegetable inks, featuring the work of over 25 makers, here.
